Open thoughts from the Rhino

So periodically when I sit down for lunch or just need some brain melting TV lounging, I'll turn on MTV. And as I've noticed its pretty much the same repackaged slop over and over. However, there is of course a common theme to it. No, not music if thats what you are thinking. Its usually the look. Young people dressed up like they are ready to rave 24/7. To be honest, I tune into the "Real World" and I am completely and totally shocked to learn they are only 18 or 19. I don't remember people at my high school looking that adult. Maybe the camera adds more than just 10 pounds.

Then of course, theres the labels. What is up with those god awful trucker hats and large rimmed glasses that have a shade of orange tint? I wonder how much they pay to look that trashy. I've yet to see any normal girls in that age bracket adopt any of these trends. Who does it appeal to exactly?

I also notice that the shelf time of the majority of thier reality shows are about a season or two. Usually entertaining shows at the most basic level (cleavage and people making asses out of themselves while trying to be serious). With the exclusion of "Real World", "Road Rules", and recently "Punk'd." Who seem to have a good following despite it being the same thing season after season with different faces. Although, I can't say that its not entertaining.

If you watch the Channel long enough, its like one show blends right into another and you can spend hours just gazing at the pretty colors and beautiful people. Maybe thats what its all about. ... *zombie stare* I pledge allegiance to the MTV...

IT's not just the people on TV. I walk through the mall and think, "The girls did not look like this when I was in high school!"

Or maybe it's just the dirty old man in me.

Yeah, thats true to an extent too. But TV makes them appear alot older to me.

Well, MTV does go through a tedious and very selective process of choosing the best looking and most annoying people for their shows possible. It also seems that having ideas, or PoV's that will be antagonistic to other housemates is a plus when they are screening.

MTV is basically this... Greedy. What's scary is that it works just by putting pretty people on the tv. Somehow, and FAR be it from me to have any clue how, they get people to watch it. Maybe it's people who are purely bored to tears, or want to laugh at stupid programming, or just don't feel like using more than 1/3 of a brain cell at a time........

I have to agree though that people do look older on TV/video... I've seen it with me... (though then again I've been able to pass for being 21 since I was 17.... I never abused it... I swear!!!! *whistles innocently*
